TECHNOLOGY
The IR sensor senses the roller coaster, prompting the pump to turn on, forcing the disinfectant through the lines to the nozzles, which mist the disinfectant on the coaster at a high PSI. I researched Car Wash and garden hose configurations and nozzles and modeled my designs off of similar set-ups. I put together a small-scale model of my circuit using common electrical components: transistors, 3V DC pump, resistors, etc.
ENGINEERING
There are many roller coaster sizes and styles, but Sani-Rides can easily be adapted to fit them all, from the height and width of the structure to the angle of the spray nozzles. I looked at lawn irrigation systems and tent poles and wanted Sani-Rides to be something that could be adjustable to fit many roller coaster sizes and styles, so I incorporated adjustable structural pipes and adjustable nozzles.
MATH
Sani-Rides can offer a long-term, financially responsible solution. In Disney alone, theme park attendance dropped by over 10 million from 2019 to 2020, primarily because people are afraid of getting sick. If rides are disinfected, it offers an added layer of security for those who are hesitant. Employees get, on average, $14 an hour. Multiply that by the number of rides, nearly 365 days a year and costs add up.
